“We’re not just calculating numbers—we’re building a ready, inclusive and secure future for everyone.”
Yasmina Chaib (33) was drawn to numbers from an early age. Growing up in Spain, her talent and love for technical subjects stood out. “At university, I realised my passion for problem-solving and STEM field. Luckily, I had professors who believed in me. They didn’t just teach—they encouraged. They told me, ‘You’re good at this. Keep going.’”
That support became foundational. It sparked a deeper curiosity, leading her to explore careers that blended technical complexity with real-world impact. “I discovered the actuarial profession almost by accident,” she says. “It combined everything I loved: STEM, business, and communication.”
A mind for numbers, a heart for purpose
Yasmina began her career at PwC, where she gained early exposure to the intricacies of financial systems and insurance. Over time, she worked across several organisations, always seeking places where she could grow, contribute and evolve. Then came a call from NN.
“They reached out to me directly because of my profile,” Yasmina recalls. “What attracted me was not only the technical depth of the role but the way they described the team, the values and the commitment to people and innovation. It felt right.” She joined NN Spain as a valuation actuary and has been on the team for over two years.
Building tools—and confidence
Yasmina is involved in technically complex projects, including those using advanced data tools to understand customer behaviours like policy lapses better. “We want to personalise our approach to clients. Their needs are evolving, and so must we,” she explains.
One of her proudest accomplishments? Designing tools and processes that are now widely used within her team. “That feeling—that something you built is now making others’ work easier and more accurate—it’s very fulfilling. It means what I do matters.” But she’s also quick to highlight the role of constant change as both a challenge and an opportunity. “We’re in a moment where things evolve fast; AI, data, client expectations. Staying updated and giving quick, smart responses is part of shaping the future.”
Convinced that more women can join
In an industry where the colleagues are mainly male, Yasmina knows women are breaking boundaries—not just for herself, but for others. “When women see someone like them doing well in a technical field, it opens a door in their minds. If she can do it, maybe I can too.” She sees herself as part of a quiet, consistent wave of change. “It’s not about being the only woman in the room—it’s about ensuring you're not the last. We need more girls to see that technical careers are not just possible but exciting and impactful.”
She’s also part of NN’s high-potential talent pool, receiving mentorship and ongoing communication, emotional intelligence and leadership training. “They see your potential and help you grow into it.”
Why NN stands out
At NN, Yasmina has found more than a workplace, she’s found a culture that listens. “From day one, I was surprised by the transparency. You can talk to anyone, even directors. There’s no ego, no hierarchy wall. It’s open.”
And there’s space to grow. Whether taking courses, joining cross-border projects or getting certified in new skills, Yasmina feels supported in her ambitions. “What I love is that NN doesn't just talk about development, they invest in it.” But perhaps her favourite part is the people. “I love my team. We’re young, driven and we actually like spending time together, even outside work. That’s rare.”
Creating the future—today
For Yasmina, shaping the future means more than just accurate financial models. It’s about helping people secure their futures, encouraging more women into technical fields and contributing to a workplace that values growth, inclusion and impact.
“If someone is thinking about applying to NN, I’d say: do it. This is a place that gives you space to be yourself, grow professionally and make a difference. And if you’re a woman wondering if this is for you: yes, it is. We need more of you here.”
