Caglar Yukseldi

PMO lead at NN Group

“If you show what you want, you’ll get every opportunity to grow here”

From account manager to project support in IT: Caglar Yukseldi’s career path demonstrates what’s possible when you seize opportunities. Since joining NN Group, Caglar has developed at lightning speed. Starting as a business analyst within a complex IT programme, Caglar is now PMO lead for the SIDAP programme (Schade en Inkomen Data Analytics Platform). And that’s no coincidence: “At NN, you’re given trust and the resources to develop yourself. As long as you show you’re willing.”

From part-time job to a career in business IT
Caglar grew up in Hengelo and studied business development in Utrecht and Amsterdam. “During my studies, I had all sorts of part-time jobs, including at Samsung, but I lacked direction. Applying for jobs in the first few months after graduation didn’t yield much either.” That changed when he got the chance to dive into IT—with a crash course in finance—via Calco, a traineeship organisation that trains and guides young professionals towards a career in IT or finance. This ultimately led to a match with NN Group. “I only really knew them as an insurer. But behind that name is a huge organisation, full of technical challenges. Once inside, I started as a business analyst and immediately received a lot of trust from my manager.”

Rapid growth by taking initiative
It soon became clear that Caglar could analyse, visualise, and clarify complex matters well. “I was assigned to various projects and learned quickly.” But he wanted to do more at NN, to contribute more. Through the YIPP community for young IT professionals at NN, he took the initiative to help others grow. “We made the community more accessible for all young IT professionals at NN. I strongly believe in mutual support—helping each other to grow.”

When the YIPP chairperson left, Caglar took on the role. His involvement was noticed, and in close consultation with his manager, he was able to take the next step. “Now I’m PMO lead within the SIDAP programme, the right hand of the programme manager. I’m learning a huge amount from him. His knowledge and experience are inspiring, and he also sees potential in me.”

Technology with social impact
Within SIDAP, Caglar works on process optimisation and financial reporting, among other things. “We’re switching to a new application that allows us to report faster and more efficiently. Ultimately, that also helps with better premium estimation for customers.” His work directly impacts NN’s services, which is motivating. “We’re preparing the company for the future, and I’m proud of that.”

Recognition as a driving force
A moment that stuck with him? “When I’d just started, I received the compliment that I could quickly grasp and clarify complex topics. That was a proud moment.” The move to his current role was also one of recognition. “My manager said: ‘I can really spar with you, you get it.’ Feedback like that gives you energy.”

Room to learn and have fun
Development is structurally embedded at NN. “You set annual learning goals and are trusted to actually achieve them. This year, I’ve taken three courses, from Lean Six Sigma to strategic leadership. The budget is simply there. If you want to learn something, it’s made possible.”

There’s also room for enjoyment at work. “We have a very diverse team: from 25 to 60 years old, with all sorts of backgrounds. The atmosphere is open, honest, and sociable. We play padel together, go out for dinner, and meet up outside work too. That makes working at NN extra enjoyable.”

Flexible, committed, and people-oriented
What Caglar values at NN is the combination of professionalism and humanity. “People are genuinely cared for here. If something’s bothering you, you can discuss it openly. No one judges. And work-life balance isn’t an empty promise here. There’s a lot of trust: as long as you take responsibility, you have the freedom to organise your day flexibly. That sometimes means fitting in some exercise between meetings, but also being willing to put in extra time in the evening if needed.”

“If you don’t seize your chance, someone else will”
For anyone considering applying to NN, Caglar has one clear message: “If you have ambition, everything is open to you here. But you do have to show yourself. If you don’t seize your chance, someone else will. And those opportunities are there. I always give NN a 9 in the employee satisfaction survey. That says it all, doesn’t it?”
